Beaumont Solar completes 1.3MW PV system atop Joseph Abboud factory

The New England solar installer has completed a 1.3 MW rooftop project on the suit maker’s manufacturing facility. The 272,000 square-foot building in coastal Massachusetts, once powered with coal and oil, is now almost self-sufficient.

Beaumont Solar, a full service solar developer and engineering, procurement & construction contractor, announced on Wednesday the successfully completion of a 1.3 MW solar rooftop system on the Joseph Abboud manufacturing facility in New Bedford, Massachusetts.

According to the company’s press release the 4,172 PV modules are expected to produce approximately 1.7 megawatt-hours of electricity annually, reducing CO2 emissions and energy costs. “This is how our facility used to get powered, first with coal and then with oil,” said Anthony Sapienza, President of Joseph Abboud. “Now we are almost completely self-sufficient, producing our own clean energy, without emissions, and significantly reducing our energy costs.“

The building, built in 1909, boasts a saw tooth roof that has 43 consecutive rows with a 22 degree tilt and facing 180 degrees due south to the sun. “Simply put the old building is perfect for solar power,” said Phil Cavallo, president and CEO of Beaumont Solar.

The partnership represents an innovative way to bring seemingly disparate industries together, resulting in U.S.-based manufacturing jobs and clean energy under one proverbial and literal roof.
